Annual Parish Meeting
What is the Annual Parish Meeting?
The Annual Parish Meeting is a public meeting held once a year for all local residents in the parish. It is not a Parish Council meeting. Instead, it is an opportunity for the community to come together, hear updates about local activity, and raise matters of interest or concern.
When does it take place?
The meeting must be held each year between 1 March and 1 June, as required by law.
Who can attend?
The meeting is open to everyone who lives in the parish, including:
- Residents (electors)
- Community groups and organisations
- Parish councillors
All attendees are welcome to speak and take part in discussions.
Who chairs the meeting?
The meeting is usually chaired by the Chair of the Parish Council. However, it is a meeting of the community, not a formal council decision-making meeting.
What happens at the meeting?
The Annual Parish Meeting typically includes:
- A review of the Parish Council’s activities over the past year
- Reports from local community groups, clubs, and organisations
- Updates on local projects and initiatives
- An open forum for residents to raise questions or concerns
- Discussion of issues affecting the parish
Can decisions be made?
The meeting may vote on resolutions, but these are advisory only.
This means they represent the views of the community but are not legally binding on the Parish Council.
Why is it important?
The Annual Parish Meeting provides a valuable opportunity for residents to:
- Stay informed about local matters
- Have their say on issues affecting the parish
- Share ideas and suggestions
- Help influence future community priorities
