Flying flags: a plain English guide - GOV.UK
Parish councils in the UK can fly flags on their buildings, usually to mark national occasions, local events, or to show community identity. The Union Flag is the most common, but councils may also fly flags such as the St George’s Cross, county flags, or special commemorative flags. Flag flying is guided by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s rules, which set out when certain flags should be flown (e.g., royal birthdays, Remembrance Day). Some councils also use their own parish or town flag if one exists.
